BEHIND THE PAINTBRUSH. . . .
Susan currently lives in Inlet Beach, Florida, although she has lived most of her life in Mobile, Alabama and southwest Georgia. Before moving to Inlet Beach in 2021, she lived several years in Antwerp, Belgium and then Shanghai, China. Her professional career as an artist did not begin until 2005 after the death of her first husband. Susan's time spent with a paintbrush in hand was simply therapy at the time. During that time she began to sell her art in galleries, retail shops, and her home studio. In 2015, Susan married Kerry Hill and moved to Belgium. While living in Europe, she studied for three years at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Living in Europe also gave her the opportunity to attend workshops in Italy and France while being submersed in a culture rich environment.
Susan's art has evolved over the years as it gives her creative freedom to return to a place of comfort with a purpose to create. Her mixed medium pieces border on complete abstraction to representational art depicting figures, objects, landscapes, or events. Some of Susan's art is what she considers holistic, which is reflected in the name. Her "Line of Faith" series is associated with her favorite verse: Hebrews 11:1 ~ "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." She also works on commissioned gift pieces for weddings, debutants, christenings, births, and birthdays, along with commissions for homes and offices.
After 33 years as an educator, she also decided to combine her passion for yoga and art. Susan holds a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Art from Troy State University. She is a 200hr certified yoga instructor along with a certification in children's yoga, where she incorporates art in her yoga lessons for children.
While living in Alabama, she was a member of The Eastern Shore Art Center, Bay Rivers Art Guild, and The Mobile Art Association. Her work has been featured in The Mobile Bay Monthly as part of "Perfect gifts for Christmas" and she has participated in several art events in the southern USA.. Her art is located in various locations in the USA, Asia and Europe. Susan has participated in a wide variety of charity events as a way to "give back" to her community.
